Housing availability is a significant challenge in the LOU community, and this issue is made worse by the large volume of vacation homes and short-term rentals in the area – housing which currently sits vacant for extended periods and which could be put to better use as permanent housing for local residents. This working group has as its goal the passage of a vacancy tax to disincentivize empty housing in order to free up homes for the people who live in our community.
